Cats' Corner

The Cats' Page

Kittys! They were complaining because the dogs had a whole website, and they didn't have anything, so now they have a page of their own (with one group shot).

Hard to do, but here's a picture of everyone together!

Claudius

Claudius and Melissa are brother and sister. They were born on April 1, 1990, so they are getting to be a bit elderly. Claudius is a very large cat, and is also quite overweight (he usually hovers around 20 lbs). He has this amazing ability to reduce his activity level so as not to lose weight, no matter how little he is fed. However, lately we actually have been feeding him "next to nothing" and he's actually losing some weight! He may need a tummy tuck to get rid of the extra skin though!

But, I shouldn't say bad things about him, he really is a very nice cat. He doesn't get into trouble (unless there is food involved), and he purrs whenever he gets any attention. He likes company too.

Claudius has a roman nose, so he was named after Mark's favorite Roman emperor, Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus (of I, Claudius fame).

Melissa

Melissa is your classic grouchy calico cat. She's always been very shy, and looks "cross" in most photos. Oddly enough, she's gotten friendlier as she's gotten older. We been saying that she's developing "Old Timers Disease." She always seem to be cold, and wants to sleep under lamps and in front of heating ducts.

Melissa's "name story" is not as much fun as the others. We just couldn't think of a name for her, and kept calling her "bitsy" (since she was a tiny kitten). I really didn't want that to end up being her name, so we picked Melissa because "Missy" had a similar sound. Lately, we've also been calling her "Millicent." She doesn't seem to mind.

Salem

Salem is our youngest cat. He was born in July of 1998 (near as we can tell). I've always liked black cats, and Mark's cousin knew that, so when his sister found a black kitten, he knew just where to bring him! Salem was such a tiny little kitten, he would fit in the palm of your hand. He's still a small cat (only about 8 lbs), but he has lots of fluffy black hair and looks bigger. He's a beautiful cat, with a wonderful floofy tail that doesn't show in this picture. Most pictures, he looks like a black splotch with yellow eyes, nothing else shows up!

He's also a total snot! He purrs and acts all nice, and then he bites you. He teases Gwen and gets her into trouble. He's gotten very good at getting his humans to obey his every whim. He's such a cat!

Salem was named after the cat from "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" ( a favorite show of Jessica's at the time). We should have known better than to pick that name!
